Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian newspapers:

1. The Court of Appeal in Lagos on Friday dismissed an appeal filed by the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, over the temporary forfeiture of her $5.7million. The Court upheld the temporary forfeiture order made by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun on April 26, 2017.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari’s only son, Yusuf, was Friday discharged from the Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja, where he had been on admission since he was involved in a bike accident. This was confirmed by the president’s Special Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad.

3. The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has released call up letters for 2017 Batch B, stream 2 prospective Corps members. Prospective corps members have been advised to print out their call-up letter to know their state of deployment.

4. Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai has said that protests embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kaduna State against the dismissal of thousands of workers will not change government’s position on the matter. El-Rufai stated this while responding to questions from State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock, Abuja, on Friday.

5. The Nigerian Navy has announced a major shake up in its various Commands positions with the redeployment of 30 Rear Admirals. A statement signed by the Acting Director of Naval Information, Nigerian Navy Headquarters, Abuja, Captain Suleman Dahun, added that three new Flag Officers Commanding (FOCs) have been appointed. They include: Rear Admiral Akinjide Akinrinade for the Logistics Command, Oghara, Delta state, Rear Admiral Matthew Emuekpere for the Eastern Naval Command, Calabar, Cross River State and Rear Admiral Saleh Usman for the Naval Command, Yenogoa, Bayelsa state.

6. Alleged killer of eight-year-old Victory Chikamso in Eliozu, Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Ifeany Dike, Friday slumped during his arraignment before a High Court in Port Harcourt. Dike is standing trial with two other accomplices for the alleged murder of Chikamso last year.

7. An Abuja Federal High Court has set aside the judgment that pronounced Obiora Okonkwo winner of the March, 2015 Anambra Central Senatorial District election. The judgement was given by Justice John Tsoho on Friday, setting aside the order of December 13, 2017 on the grounds that the facts were presented in such a manner to mislead the court on the two earlier decisions of the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

8. Report says an elderly man was Friday killed as Fulanis clashed with Hausa people at Kasuwan Wawuri in Tangaza local government of Sokoto state. Report says the fight started around 1:30pm in the afternoon when a Fulani man allegedly stabbed a sugarcane seller over a minor misunderstanding.

9. More than 100 shops, equipment and goods worth over N100m were razed by fire on Friday at a section of Sango Plank Market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. Chairman, Ibadan Carpenters’ Association, Ibadan North Local Government Area, Mr Abdul-Akeem Olanrewaju confirmed the incident to journalists.

10. The African Union on Friday ​lambasted President Donald Trump for his comments about African countries and other nations​.​ AU said Trump’s reported description of African nations as shithole countries was irritating. Ebba Kalondo, spokeswoman for AU Chairperson Moussa Faki said Trump’s statement “truly flies in the face of accepted behaviour and practice.”
