Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers

1. A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the interim forfeiture of the sum of N7,646,700,000 allegedly kept in Sterling Bank Plc by former Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.


Justice Chuka Obiozor granted the order on Wednesday.

2. The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, on Wednesday revealed how over N11 trillion meant for the provision of electricity supply was allegedly squandered by the administrations of former Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan.

SERAP, in a new report claimed that corruption in the electricity sector started during the administration of Obasanjo in 1999.

3. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has frowned at the hate song that is targeted at the Igbos.


Odigie-Oyegun, advised the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to order security agencies to fish out the sponsors of the song.

4. Nigerian, Emmanuel Oluwatosin Kazeem, accused of obtaining more than 125,000 stolen taxpayer identities across the United States has been convicted in a federal court in Oregon.

He was found guilty on 19 counts of mail and wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.

5. Three health workers, out of the 100 that had contact with a pregnant woman who died of Lassa fever at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, have tested positive to the infection.


LUTH’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chris Bode, confirmed this at a joint briefing by the hospital’s management and officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

6. The Kwara State Government has said that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has refunded all the pensions he collected as a former governor of Kwara State.

The Secretary to the Kwara State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold, said the former governor had since refunded the money to the state government.

7. Popular Nollywood actor, James Ikechukwu Esomugha, otherwise known as Jim Iyke has described Nigeria as a joke of Africa.

The actor said the giant of Africa title has since been taken away from Nigeria due to bad leadership of the APC-led government.

8. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Component of Operation LAFIYA DOLE Wednesday conducted an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission over Parisu, in the Sambisa general area.

The army said during the ISR mission, a large group of Boko Haram terrorists was seen converging under a tree close to a prominent zinc-roofed structure.

9. The naira on Wednesday appreciated against the dollar at the parallel market, exchanging at N363 to the dollar from the N366 posted on Tuesday.

The pound sterling and the Euro closed at N477 and N428 to the naira, respectively.

10. On the foreign scene, the FBI has searched the home of Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman as part of the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the US presidential election.


The FBI agents raided Manafort’s Virginia home before dawn on July 26, a day after he met privately with the Senate Intelligence Committee, and seized documents and other materials.
