The police on Thursday evening raided the Abuja home of former Gombe State Governor and now a Senator, representing Gombe Central, Danjuma Goje.
The operation, which lasted several hours, was said to have been carried out by operatives from the Monitoring Unit of the Inspector General of Police.
A whistleblower is believed to have provided the information to the police that funds were hidden in the building.
Reports have it that at least 12 vehicles, including about eight police vans were stationed outside the building and at least 25 mobile police officers were sighted outside the building, located on Haile Selassie Street, Asokoro, Abuja.
Initially, it was thought that the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were responsible for the raid.
However, in a swift response, Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesperson denied that the Commission was responsible for the raid.
He said: ”Please disregard online reports claiming the EFCC today April 20 raided the Abuja home of Senator Dajuma Goje. The report is false as the Commission was not a part of any such activity.”
Goje is currently being prosecuted for alleged corruption while he was Gombe State Governor.
The police is yet to issue a formal comment to that effect.
